TOPPLAY Game Thread Agrazal made four starts

As the Pirates prepare for game two of the ir three game series in St. Louis, their current losing streak certainly feels like more than just four games. Tonight at 8:15 p.m. Eastern Pittsburgh will send Dario Agrazal (2-0, 2.81) to the mound for his fourth major league start, opposed by Cardinal’s right-hander Jack Flaherty (4-6, 4.64)More message:TOPPLAY MASTERS http://cosman.com.tw/

The 23 year old Flaherty, in his second full season in the majors, has had a rough go of late, posting a 6.03 ERA over his last seven starts, even though in his last start on July 7 in San Francisco he allowed just one run on two hits and a walk in seven innings. He’s allowed 20 home runs this year, including at least one in each of those last seven games. He has yet to face the Pirates this year, but last year the Cardinals won all four games he started against the Pirates, allowing a total of five earned runs in 24 innings.
Flaherty mostly throws just two pitches, a four-seam fastball that average 94.0 mph and a slider that he throws 31% of the time. He’s been hit rather well by left-handed batters this year, allowing a 816 OPS on a 260/325/491 batting line, while just a 680 by righties (216/278/402).The 24 year old right-hander Agrazal made four starts at Double-A Altoona and another ten at Triple-A Indianapolis this year, for a combined 4.05 ERA, walking only 11 in 80 innings. The Cardinals’ slugger Matt Carpenter, who left last night’s game after fouling a ball off his leg, remains out of the lineup, replaced by Tommy Edman.
