Blizzard sues Chinese game company

圖片
Blizzard Entertainment filed a lawsuit in California on Aug. 16, alleging that Sina Games’ free-to-play Glorious Saga is “almost entirely copied from the Warcraft games and related products.”The World of Warcraft developer is seeking a court order to stop the infringement and maximum damages for the “serious and irreparable harm to Blizzard and its business,” according to the lawsuit. Specifically, Blizzard is asking for “$150,000 per infringed work,” as well as attorneys’ fees and others deemed “just and appropriate.”Sina Games is a subsidiary of Chinese software and tech company Sina Corp. Blizzard alleges that “many” of the company’s games are based off well-known franchises like Yu-Gi-Oh!, Naruto, and, of course, Warcraft. Glorious Saga is available in China and elsewhere; in the United States, the app is downloadable on the Google Play Store under the name Glorious World. It’s listed under a different developer and name, however, though the screenshots show the title Glorious ...

Game news:Fallout 76’s buggy new raid drags

圖片
Fallout 76 is in a rough spot. The game’s launch was spectacularly messy, and the following months managed to get worse. It’s only recently that Fallout 76 has been able to establish an identity and carve out a lasting niche in a flood of games as a service. Bethesda’s online take on the Fallout franchise thrives when it focuses on player choice, roleplaying, and customization. When the game tries to introduce World of Warcraft-style combat encounters and MMO gearing, that’s when things promptly go to hell.Vault 94 is the recent “raid” added to the game. Vault 94 isn’t the first piece of endgame combat-focused content — it follows Project Paradise and The Burrows, two previous dungeons.More message: TOPPLAY MASTERS SOCCER  http://cosman.com.tw/ The newest raid — and it’s hard to tell what makes it a raid over other pieces of endgame content — has multiple difficulty settings: Novice is the most forgiving, and successive difficulties add timers and more enemies to the game. John Wick Hex lead says “innovation” is the key

圖片
We’re long past the days when a mediocre platformer would accompany every film that hit screens, but there are still a lot of licensed games on the horizon. Whether games like Marvel’s Avengers, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, or Blair Witch turn out well remains to be seen, but they’re much more ambitious and original takes on those respective properties. With those titles in mind, the lead developer behind John Wick Hex believes the industry has wisened up to the fact that licensed games don’t have to be quick and dirty cash-ins. “I think there’s an understanding that we can do good licensed games,” Mike Bithell tells us. “There are these stories we can tell in an interesting way, and I think there’s a lot more variety that’s available. “I don’t think the way people think of success anymore is to stick a license on a clone of a successful game. Innovation, time and again, has been demonstrated to be the approach to getting visibility. I think that’s not been lost on the publishers ...

Ubisoft Giving Away A Free PC Game

圖片
First, you do need a Uplay account. After you've signed up, all you need to do is go to the Ubisoft Store website and click the "Get It For Free" button. It'll ask you to either launch or download Uplay, and once the launcher is open, For Honor will be redeemed to your account. Then it's just time to install it, and you're off to the races. For Honor is currently in Year 3 and has seen the release of the Black Prior and Hitokiri classes. Two more are set to release by the end of the year. Ubisoft supports For Honor with regular events, new items, and more.More message: TOPPLAY MASTERS  http://cosman.com.tw/ The Marching Fire expansion released last year. It added the Chinese Wu Lin faction, the fourth after the game launched with Knights, Samurai, and Vikings. The Wu Lin faction consists of four classes: the Dao blade-wielding Tiandi, Guando heavy Jiang Jun, hook sword-equipped Nuxia, and staff-swinging Shaolin. Prior to the Wu Lin, Ubisoft spent its fir...

You Can Finally See Some Gameplay From The Avengers

圖片
Aside from a quickly-squashed leak, it hasn’t been possible to see the E3 2019 gameplay demo for Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming Marvels’ Avengers game. That would be the intro level that E3 attendees said was somewhat more encouraging than the game’s maligned E3 trailer.Today, because the marketing plan demanded it, we can finally all watch the level in action. The 18-minute segment shows off what it’s like to control Thor, the Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man and Black Widow. It doesn’t show how the game will actually play out once it gets going, because this opening level is all tutorial. People who are expecting the Avengers to sound like their Marvel Cinematic Universe versions are going to be disappointed or weirded out. And anyone looking for glimpses of the game’s online gameplay or even just a glimpse of how the game is structured and flows won’t find that in the demo. But at least we’re catching up to what select E3 attendees saw at a theater demo in June.Crystal Dyn...

A TOPPLAY MODERN surreal survival game:The Eternal Cylinder

圖片
Ace Team, the developer behind Zeno Clash and Rock of Ages, is working on another surreal, mind-bending game full of bizarre critters. The Eternal Cylinder is an open-world survival affair where you've got to look after a herd of cute alien beasties called trebhums as they evolve into better cute alien beasties. I thought I was getting tired of open-world survival games, but apparently not. This looks wild. Ace Team are no strangers to making weird worlds, of course, but in Zeno Clash you could only punch your way through it. In Eternal Cylinder, you'll be raising new life. Isn't that nicer?More message: TOPPLAY MODERN  http://cosman.com.tw/ The way your trebhums evolve seems to be very specific, like becoming a cube so they can fit through a tiny square door. Swimming and flying abilities can also be learned, letting them get to even more new places. So mutations are connected to puzzles and progression. As someone who is getting a bit sick of having to craft hammers an...

No Man's Sky:The Impossible Game People Imagined

圖片
The pre-launch hype for No Man's Sky was so obviously out of whack with the game itself that it hurt. Here we had an interesting indie project with a grand procedural promise and some pretty graphics that had been given top billing at Sony's E3 press conferences, catapulting it to a level of interest usually reserved for God of War and Naughty Dog games. People lost their minds, predicting that this would be the last game they would ever play, a genre-defying mix of exploration and combat in an endless sci-fi wonderland of mysterious creatures and impossible landscapes. We all know what happened next: this interesting indie project was obviously not the thing people wanted it to be, said people revolted and said developer started the long, slow and painful process of resurrecting the game through a long series of free updates. Today marks the release of No Man's Sky Beyond, bringing with it full VR support, major improvements to multiplayer, a more complicated base-buil...

Topplay game news:Samsung is bringing PC game streaming

圖片
One of the more interesting news tidbits from yesterday’s Unpacked event got a bit drowned out in all of the noise. Understandably so — Samsung jammed a lot into an event that ran just over an hour, virtually sprinting through a handful of gaming announcements. The below video is the best demonstration we have of PlayGalaxy Link, a new feature that makes it possible to stream games directly from a PC to the Galaxy Note 10. Why the company didn’t make a bigger deal of the feature is beyond me, but when Apple and Google are really starting to get involved in gaming in earnest, Samsung really ought to have shone a bigger light on the new offering.More message: TOPPLAY MASTERS MODERN  http://cosman.com.tw/ From the sound of it, the feature will be similar to one that Microsoft has been working on for the Xbox, letting users stream games from their PC onto the mobile device, whether or not they’re on a shared Wi-Fi.The video showcases the connection, as a user links a Samsung Odyssey...

Video game writing hit a high-water mark in 1999

圖片
Every Friday, A.V. Club staffers kick off our weekly open thread for the discussion of gaming plans and recent gaming glories, but of course, the real action is down in the comments, where we invite you to answer our eternal question: What Are You Playing This Weekend?Planescape: Torment only does two things—talk and fight—and it’s a testament to how well it does the former that it’s widely considered one of the greatest games of all time, despite the fact that its approach to the latter can charitably be described as “mostly inoffensive,” and accurately described as “crap.” Torment is an existentially obsessed, winding, and frequently harrowing/hilarious trip across the strangest reaches of the already-pretty-strange Dungeons & Dragons universe, and it plays host to a strong contender for the best writing to ever grace a video game. Which is all well and good, except for one thing: It’s been 20 years. Where the hells has its competition to that lofty throne been all this time? R...

A Lot Of New Game Ideas:Assassin's Creed Creator

圖片
Patrice Desilets, the creator of the Assassin's Creed franchise, has a mind full of game ideas. He told GI.biz that in addition to making the long-awaited 1666 Amsterdam, he has ideas for numerous other games, including some that are very personal to him.Desilets heads up the independent studio Panache Digital Games, which is working with Take-Two's indie label on Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, which launches this year. That game sees you playing as TOPPLAY  human ancestor animal and trying to survive in a harsh world. 1666 Amsterdam, which Desilets had returned to him amid a lawsuit with Ubisoft, is also set in a historical time period. But Desilets does eventually plan to make games that take place in different time periods.More message: TOPPLAY MODERN SOCCER  http://cosman.com.tw/ "Panache has another IP called 1666 Amsterdam, which we will eventually make," he said. Game Has Been Canceled! The 1,000-Player Battle Royale Game

圖片
The 1,000-player PC battle royale game, Mavericks: Proving Grounds, has been canceled. Developer Automaton Games is scuttling the project due to "insufficient funding," while the studio overall appears to be closing up shop. The developer confirmed the news in a post on its website. "Please be advised that due to insufficient funding, the development of the Mavericks: Proving Grounds game has now ceased." Automaton Games, which is based in the UK, has become insolvent, and insolvency practitioners Paul Appleton and Paul Cooper have been brought in to wind things down and close up the studio. It's an out-of-nowhere update for Marvericks. Just last week, the developers announced that the game reached the Alpha stage of development--which is a major milestone for any game. Marvericks was playable at E3 2019 back in June.Marvericks used the cloud-based SpatialOS tools that allowed the team to make massive worlds that could accommodate 1,000 players on a map. A pub...
